4 things to do when your car breaks down

Every machine has a life and due to lack of maintenance and regular repairs sometimes unforeseen circumstances can lead to sudden car breakdowns. Although it is a stressful experience, you need to stay calm. Follow the steps given below in order to deal with a car breakdown situation efficiently:

Pull over and stay put

The most important thing is to ensure your safety and the safety of others. If possible, steer your car to a safe location off the road, like the shoulder. Turn on your hazard lights to warn approaching drivers. Do not attempt to fix your car on a busy road. It is important to ensure other vehicles’ safety on highways.

Place warning triangles or cones around your vehicle to further notify the approaching traffic, reducing the likelihood of accidents. By prioritizing safety and following these steps, you can mitigate risks and ensure a smoother resolution when encountering unexpected car troubles.

Assess the situation

After ensuring the safety of yourself and others try to assess the situation of your car to find out if you can fix it yourself. This evaluation is crucial for determining the appropriate course of action. Simple issues like a flat tire or a dead battery may be manageable with basic tools and knowledge.

However, attempting to address more complex problems without the necessary expertise could exacerbate the issue or pose safety risks. It is essential to realistically gauge your capabilities and consider factors like your mechanical aptitude, available tools, and the severity of the problem.

If you are unsure of the nature of the problem, whether the problems are associated with batteries, transmissions, radiator, or engine of the car acting up it is safer to seek professional help

Call roadside assistance

When faced with a car breakdown, determining whether to call roadside assistance or a tow truck is crucial for a swift resolution. Factors such as the severity of the issue, your location, and your level of automotive expertise will guide you.

In cases of severe mechanical failures or accidents that render your car immobile, a tow truck may be necessary to transport your vehicle to a repair shop.Use your insurance roadside assistance if it is valid, otherwise, you may contact a reputable tow truck company to help you with car repair by taking it to a workshop.

Keep a record of everything

In case of unexpected breakdowns, the situation can be pretty stressful but it is important to get hold of your nerves and keep a record of things. Take pictures of the damage to your car and the surrounding area. This can be helpful for insurance purposes or if there are any questions about what happened.

Start by photographing the scene, capturing the condition of your vehicle and its surroundings. Note any visible damages, leaks, or warning lights on the dashboard.Jot down notes about the time the breakdown occurred, the symptoms you experienced, and any interactions with roadside assistance or the tow truck driver.
